Happy Fourth of July everyone! Jeans and t-shirt’s have been the American uniform for years, and brands are finally capitalizing on this look by creating pieces that update this traditionally casual outfit. I created today’s outfit to update this American tradition, just in time for the Fourth of July.

Off the shoulder tops have become a closet staple lately, especially for the spring and summer. A wide range of brands, from H&M and Alexander Wang, are creating tops in this flattering silhouette using classic American colors like blue and white. I chose this bodysuit from Forever 21, because it is super easy to tuck into jeans, and the blue & white pinstripe gives out true all-American vibes.

Updating jeans is a little harder to do, so my advice is to go for a fit that you don’t normally wear. Since I usually live in my skinny jeans, I picked up these semi-flare white jeans from Old Navy to complete my look. These jeans actually fit me PERFECTLY, I was pleasantly surprised, so definitely check out Old Navy for good quality denim. When you look at my outfit you would never know that it simply stems from the working man’s jeans and a t-shirt (read this discussion from vogue, and this discussion from Elizabeth Cline to learn more about the origins of white t-shirts and jeans).
