One of the first things I learned at FIT is that fashion is a cycle. Every trend that is in style will go out of style, and then eventually will be back. I always hear my parents saying “I used to have a pair of jeans like that” or “I remember when everyone was obsessed with Ray Bans”, but I never really thought much about it. But if you look around at what people are wearing now, it really does look like something straight out of the 90s. The “mom” jean style is the primary jean of choice, and vintage stores are thriving because everyone wants something old.

The top that I am wearing is from one of my all time favorite stores, Primark. Their prices are super cheap, this top was only $4, and they are very fashion conscious.  A huge trend for the spring season is embroidery, and adding embroidery onto a pair of mom jeans really freshens them up and makes the old style new again. Since the 90s were a decade of color, try channeling this trend by adding some bolder and brighter hued pieces into your wardrobe.

Sometimes I wonder if we are just doomed to be like our parents. Not in our personalities, but in the way we dress. Maybe our personal style has been embroidered into us by our parents before us. Sure we all have our own individual style, but the cyclical nature of trends is that sooner or later we will be wearing what our parents used to wear. So, here’s a piece of advice; don’t get rid of any of your clothing. I can guarantee you that it will come back into style.

Top: Primark
Jeans: Zara
Bomber Jacket: Mixology Clothing
Shoes: Steve Madden
Bag: Louis Vuitton

What is a trend that you want to come back into style?

xoxo Gabriela
