Now that we’ve had time to digest all of our favorite looks from the Met Gala this year, let’s dive into the trends we saw and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe!

I had a feeling everyone would bring their A game this year, and they truly did not disappoint. Some of my favorite looks are below, but lets get into what really matters – how can we translate these couture celebrity looks into wearable ones in our own wardrobe?! Because who doesn’t want to look as gorgeous as Blake did (she will always be one of the QUEENS of the Met).

While the Met is always an extravagant event, it really does show how the next few months of fashion and style are going to play out. I’m going to be pointing out my favorite dressed attendees, why I like their looks, and how you can translate the trends shown into your own wardrobe… I know, you’re welcome!

Style Trends:

  • Black and white – given the theme, and the dress code of White Tie, I knew black and white were going to be key colors. Separately, these have always been part of the staple NYC wardrobe, but start playing around with them together! If you aren’t ready for that, dip your toe into the look with maybe a navy and cream contrast, or even grey and ivory. Anything with 2 contrasting colors and you’ll get the same effect!
  • Feathers – I’ve always loved feathers. I always will love feathers. I’ve already been seeing people embrace this with feathered cuffs (look it up on TikTok, they are SUPER easy to DIY), but if you’re feeling fun and daring, try out a feather trimmed mini skirt or a feather crop top! Also check out Dana Foley, if you haven’t already been seeing tons of people wearing her pieces. Truly amazing pieces, and she’s a local NYC designer! I want everything she makes.
  • Corsetting – we are already seeing corsets in mainstream fashion, and considering the theme I knew we would be seeing even more. The oversized look has been popular for many years now, but we are seeing a switch to the other side of the spectrum, accentuating your waist at any possible moment! There are some really fun ones, and even brands making pieces with the corset look without the actual, you know, squishing of the ribcage lol.
  • Oppulence and Glamour – we are stepping back into the world in a big way, and fashion is definitely following that. Don’t be shy to incorporate some shimmer, sequins, feathers, and big patterns into your wardrobe.
  • Showing Skin – We are showing our skin! I keep saying, this is going to be the summer of skin – mini skirts, sheer detailing and cutouts are going to be everywhere. Lots of bare midriffs and sheer paneling, be proud of the skin you’re in!
  • 2 piece sets – I loved all the sets we were seeing, Camila, Normani, Emma Chamberlain. Especially for summer, 2 piece sets make it super easy to decide on what to wear, and it’s like getting 3 outfits in 1! You can wear both pieces separately or pair them together for an effortless but cute look.
  • Sustainability – as it should, sustainability and upcycling were the buzzwords of the night. So many designers focusing on the environmental impact of their pieces including Louis Vuitton, Prabal Gurung and Tommy Hilfiger, to name a few. As ironic as it may seem, since I just spent the last half of a page showing you some of my favorite pieces to shop, the most sustainable act is to use what you already have in your closet. I hope showing you these trends inspire you to use what is currently sitting in your dresser or hanging on a rack, give it a new life and supplement it with a few key pieces each season.

Best dressed:

  • Blake Lively – Wearing Versace. Kills it always and this is perfect in my eyes; on theme and still so gorgeous and so her! And the REVEAL of the bow folding down to be the color of the statue of liberty, with celestial detailing found at Grand Central… Attention to detail is an understatement. If you love her look, turn to copper and rose gold hues, both in wardrobe and jewelry. A perfect way to emulate her look.

  • Vanessa Hudgens – Wearing Moschino. I think looks gorgeous, it is still reminiscent of the gilded age with the all black and matches her theme and aesthetic, which I love. Don’t get me wrong, I love a gorgeous look, but when it fits the wearers aesthetic and personal style it is extra points in my book.

  • Austin Butler – Wearing Prada. Ok I know, he would look great wearing absolutely anything/nothing but I love his look. The black, super chic, love the satin stripe down the tuxedo pant, and love the undone tie.

  • Shawn Mendez – Wearing Tommy Hilfiger. He looks amazing, and it’s fully sustainable made out of deadstock fabric! We love a sustainable moment on a red carpet, bringing the importance of shopping and designing consciously even more central.

  • Sarah Jessica Parker – Wearing Christopher John Rogers. I literally gasped when they showed her, I was WAITING on someone to do a true voluminous gown a la the 1800s and she did not disappoint! Love the black and white, love the style, the headpiece. Just perfectly on theme and such a great dramatic Met moment. Would expect nothing less from Miss Bradshaw. And there’s pockets! If you want to emulate her style, try incorporating both black and white into your outfits.

Honorable Mentions

  • Laura Harrier – perfect definition of gilded glamour. Love the corseting, it fits her beautifully, gorgeous shimmer fabric and I surprisingly love the slate grey color.
  • Sabrina Carpenter – just gorgeous, so glamorous, you can’t say anything bad.
  • Alicia Keys – love the skyline, the most beautiful crystal detailing, we love a Ralph Lauren moment, and LOVE the hair.
