Theater makes you feel. Sadness. Grief. Happiness. Joy. Confusion. Frustration. Anger. All of these feelings and emotions are jam packed into a 2 and a half hour session. It is overwhelming, breathtaking and, most of all, magical.

Theater brings understanding. It provides us with mirror images of our lives and situations that we are going through. And it shows us a solution. It shows us that even the toughest struggles can be solved. We connect what is happening in our lives to the story and with that brings a new light and a new perspective.

Theater makes you grieve. It helps you grieve over loved ones. It helps you grieve an ending chapter in your life, a job change, a change in social groups. It helps you grieve losses that you never even knew you had experienced.

Theater makes you laugh. There are moments that it feels like you may simply explode with happiness. It gives you a distraction and a five second burst of true positivity, which is sometimes all you need to bring some joy into your life.

And most of all; theater shows us that we are not alone. After seeing this show I am more aware of that fact than ever. Sitting in this re-designed theater with 1,200 of the biggest Harry Potter fans in the NYC area (we braved the cold for 6 hours for these tickets to the first ever preview, so don’t doubt our faith) I was reminded just how strong this fandom is. And how connected we are through this amazing story.

I hope JK Rowling, John Tiffany, Jack Thorne and the rest of the wonderful cast and crew who put this play together fully realize what this show means to us- how important it is. It brought us back into this world that we never truly left. Just like Harry, we were never truly alone.

When something ends, there is a new beginning. There is beauty in change. Relationships take work. Those who die never truly leave us, they live on in our hearts.

Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.

And welcome us home it did…

What is your favorite Harry Potter book?

xoxo Gabriela
