The MTV VMA’s have always showcased some of the most daring, yet on trend, looks in fashion, and this years award ceremony was no different. There were countless number of out-there outfits (I mean Miley, really?) mixed in with some simple, but elegant, gowns fit for a red carpet princess. This year especially has showcased some of the biggest trends for fall.
Starting off with a color trend, mustard is the thing this season. I have always loved this bright fun color for the fall time, but it can be a little overpowering so look for it in small accessories and accents such as shoes or a handbag.

– Maroon
– Brown
– Black
The color black has always been seen on the red carpet because of how flattering it is, but now designers are using it to create a new fresh trend; black with contrasting fabrics. Black and leather was seen a lot together this year, but it was seen in different ways. This fall, look for pieces with a shiny leather accent instead of the normal matte look. Also, combining a thick chunky sweater with a sheer button down underneath, is a great way to interpret this trend.
This dress flatters Lily beautifully, with the cutouts on the side making her waist look even smaller than it already is. Keeping the side cutouts minimal keeps the plunging neckline from looking too over the top.
Pluging necklines have always been a favorite of celebrity stylists, and this year they combined it with cutouts along the sides of the body, showing more skin that ever before. Now, I am not telling you all to go into work showing everything under the sun, just be open to deeper necklines and cutouts this fall. Having some pieces with cutouts freshens up your wardrobe and adds something different to your everyday outfit.
Niki is known for showing off a little too much skin, and although she was on trend, I think she went a little too overboard. On the bright side, I do like that the cutouts on the bottom of the dress were covered with sheer fabric, and the gold color was gorgeous.
