The Met Gala is one of my favorite events of the entire year. I just love how each year everyone really comes together to create looks that celebrate both the theme and celebrate the creativity that comes with fashion. The theme this year was called Heavenly Bodies and incorporates fashion and Catholicism. This is one of their most controversial themes, but I think it is such an interesting one. And the outfits definitely didn’t disappoint. There were some people that looked so angelic and beautiful, some who I wasn’t quite sure what I thought about them and those that just missed the mark completely. Here is a roundup of some of the best, and some of the worst, looks. You’ll be surprised at who didn’t make the cut!

And, for future reference, I’m going to go to the Met Gala one day. If anyone is looking for a date to next years, let me know (I’m def not kidding)….

BEST Kardashian: Kim Kardashian in Versace

This is one of my favorite looks from the night. I love how simple it is, but the cross detailing ties it into the theme enough. I also like that she opted for something a little on the reserved side, I think it suits her and is respectful towards the theme. And COME ON- How does her body look like that? Literally gorgeous.

WORST Kardashian: Kylie Jenner in Alexander Wang

Ok, so I love the outfit and I love that they match. But this doesn’t relate to the theme AT ALL. The whole point of the Met Gala is to experiment and create something that goes along with the theme. This was a very trendy look, and a very Kylie look, but save it for a different carpet girlie. Also, take off your sunglasses.

BEST ruffle: Ariana Grande in Vera Wang

I know, I know. I’m slightly biased because Ari is my QUEEN, but I really do love her look. This was her first Met Gala and I think she really knocked it out of the park. She was literally on theme, her dress had a painting from the sistine chapel on it, and looked absolutely gorgeous in the layers of ruffled tulle. She looks so graceful and angelic and really set the bar high for future Met Gala’s.

WORST ruffle: Selena Gomez in Coach

I love Selena so so so so so so so much, but I didn’t love her look. Her dress was ok, that wasn’t the problem, but her whole face makeup was very oily and cakey. In every single picture you could see the flashback and see the foundation smeared onto her face. I know, this pains me too, but Selena missed the mark on this one!

BEST angel: Katy Perry in Versace

Katy is the best at costumes and following themes and this year was no exception. Literally gliding in on angel wings and slaying the carpet with her confidence and grace, she really made an impact.

BEST literal: Rihanna in Margiela

Rihanna is the pope. Literally the pope. I can’t get over the detail that is on her outfit, the beading and the shape of her pope hat. Although the silhouette of the cape and dress isn’t the most flattering for her, she really made up for it with the detailing. I also love that she went all out, given that she was one of the hosts.

WORST literal: Sarah Jessica Parker in Dolce and Gabbana

Ugh, ANOTHER one where I am literally crying while writing this. I loved the idea of the dress, and she definitely wins best headpiece, but it just was the least flattering outfit of the bunch. Like Rihanna’s, the detailing is insane and the colors are beautiful, but this one just didn’t do her figure justice. This isn’t my least favorite look of the night, and it definitely matched the theme the most, so I’ll give her points for that!

BEST couple: Lili Rheinhart in H&M and Cole Sprouse

The internet was SCREAMING when the pictures starting coming in of Lilly and Cole, and for good reason. They are everything!!! Hands down my new favorite couple, and in all of the pictures they just looked so truly HAPPY, which is so rare. You can see them almost trying to hide their smiles. I also loved Lilly’s dress and think she really owned it. I don’t know if it was completely on theme, but she did look absolutely amazing. And Cole Sprouse is Cole Sprouse and he always looks great so…

WORST couple: Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin in Tommy Hilfiger

This threw me off. I literally thought the photo was photoshopped. Like WHATTTTTTT? But aside from the obvious question about the relationship, I just think both of them were super boring. They didn’t do anything to the theme at all, and I just think they got lost in everyone else’s outfits except for the fact of their relationship. But, I love the color of Shawn’s suit, so I’ll give them 1 point.

TOP 2 OF THE NIGHT:

Blake Lively in Versace

Literal QUEEN end of story.

Anna Wintour in Chanel

I have no words- there’s a reason she’s Anna Wintour.

What Met Gala look was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

xoxo Gabriela
