There are times when I have the urge to jump on my computer and just write. This is one of those times.

This news about Kate Spade is making me so incredibly sad. Mental health is something that is very important to me and whenever I hear about someone struggling I feel it. I feel the sadness that her friends and family must be feeling, but I also feel what she must have been feeling.

The Kate Spade brand is such a happy and fun brand. Whenever you see a Kate Spade design, you can’t help but have a little smile on your face. It is so sad that such a creative and positive person was taken away in such a way. It really is such an important reminder that you literally never know what someone is feeling.

I was talking to someone about the news, as pretty much the whole internet is talking about it, and she said something that really frustrated me. “There was never any news about her struggling previously. It doesn’t make sense”.

And that is exactly it. There usually never really is. It doesn’t make sense.

You never know what someone is struggling with unless they open up about it. You never know what someone is feeling, you never know what they are dealing with.

Just because someone looks like they are happy doesn’t mean they are actually ok.

Just because someone is successful doesn’t mean they don’t have any problems. It doesn’t mean that they are invincible.

I hate when people bash on people who are successful or who have money and say that their problems don’t matter. Or that their problems aren’t real. They are. Everyone has the right to not be ok.

It frustrates me that so many people still do not understand how mental health and suicide work. Correction: they don’t work. There isn’t one way that they play out or one way that they affect someone.

I hope all the people talking about this and spreading this news really understand how real it is. This story is all over the internet, but tomorrow something about a celebrity or other news will take over and everyone will stop talking about it. But things like this happen every single day. It isn’t just a headline, it is something that touches everyone’s lives.

We have to keep talking about it. We have a long way to go with mental health.

But even more than that, it starts from the ground up. We have to make a real effort in our own lives to support each other. We have to support our friends, our family, and even our enemies. Most of the reason people are “mean” or “rude” is because they are dealing with their own struggles. We learn in kindergarten to be nice to everyone, and it is so so true. You never know what can tip someone off the edge.

No one should have to suffer alone. Not one person.

We have to bring more love and light into the world. That is the only way things will get better.

It doesn’t have to be hard. Smile at people as you walk down the street. Make small talk with the grocery store cashier. Joke around with your co-worker who sits alone at lunch. Be aware of the people around you and if you even have the slightest feeling someone is struggling, talk to them.

I hope you read this and feel something. I hope it shows you how important and real these issues are. I hope it gives you some ideas of how you can bring more love and positivity into your day to day life. And I hope it brings some comfort to those of you who are struggling.

If anyone is ever struggling and needs someone to talk to, I am always here. No matter who you are.
